Visitors’ Guide to Central Florida Golf Courses

Although golf may not be the first activity that comes to mind when you think of a Sunshine State getaway, it should be on your list. Thanks to our abundant green space and extremely agreeable weather, the region is home to several world-class golf courses of varying types and skill levels. Looking to hit the links during your visit? Here are our picks for nearby central Florida golf courses you should check out while you’re here.

Southern Dunes Country Club

This award-winning course (located less than a ten-minute drive from Balmoral Resort) is consistently ranked among the best in the state — and for good reason. The varied topography at Southern Dunes stretches over 7,200 yards, and features over 100 feet of elevation shifts. steep-walled bunkers, rolling greens and high-grass rough offer a challenging-but-fair day on the links any experienced golfer is certain to remember.

Willowbrook Golf Course

The meticulously maintained grounds at Willowbrook represent a distinctly Floridian flavor of landscape every duffer should experience. Old-growth trees, sneaky water hazards, and sharp doglegs scattered across all 18 holes will test the skill of even veteran players. Thankfully, the scenery, large number of native wildlife species and gentle slopes make for a literal walk in the park. Be sure to stop by the well-stocked pro shop, too.

Grenelefe Golf & Tennis Resort

The twin sets of links at Grenelefe were carefully designed to offer a great day’s golf, but distinctly separate types of challenges. The par-71 South Course is the slightly more approachable of the two — it’s dotted with scenic lakes, features large, level greens and is appropriate for players of all levels. The par-72 East Course rewards skill by presenting a precision-over-power test of narrow fairways and compact greens. Why not play both?

White Heron Golf Club

The 18-hole championship-level links at White Heron are unique in all of Florida. Whereas many country clubs feature holes designed by notable golfers, White Heron’s were the brainchild of former NASA engineer Ted McAnlis. You’ll discover sharply rolling greens, surprising elevation shifts and more than 100 bunkers across the club’s 7,400 yards and 200 acres. Once you’ve sunk your last putt, stop by The Nest restaurant to refuel.

Providence Golf Club

The European-feel 18-hole course at Providence is ideal for any golfer looking for serenity over strain. Gentle fairways and pillowy greens wind around some truly stunning natural topography — babbling creeks, wetland areas and towering trees are a feast for the senses, and spotting wildlife is a frequent occurrence. The course has played host to many championship tournaments, and the deep menu at the Grille Room also satisfies.

Cypresswood Golf & Country Club

The layout at Cypresswood comes courtesy of renowned designer Ron Garl, and is beautifully representative of his distinctly open and spacious style. Sweeping fairways give way to some of the smoothest greens in the state, and lush natural landscaping offers postcard-worthy vistas. Visitors will also enjoy the convenience of putting and chipping greens, a driving range, an on-site pro shop, and even available lessons.
